Meet the instructors: Zandro Tumaliuan — USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025

The second local artist we introduce is Zandro Tumaliuan, who will be leading the sketchwalk Fast & Fearless: The Art of Travel Sketching

Zandro is a designer and partner at HDI/Hager Design International in Vancouver, seamlessly integrates sketching into his creative process. Whether conceptualizing designs at work or exploring new destinations, he finds joy and tranquility in urban sketching. Armed with his trusted pens, sketchbook, and watercolors, he captures vibrant moments wherever he goes. His sketches not only document his travels but also spark conversations with curious passersby. Through his art, he preserves the essence of his surroundings, creating lasting memories of each journey. Sketching provides him with solace amid bustling cityscapes, allowing him to see the world through a dynamic and expressive lens.

In the sketching adventure on Granville Island, he will guide sketchers and explore its vibrant streets, bustling markets, and scenic waterfront while capturing interesting places in the sketchbook. The session focuses on the art of travel sketching—learning to work efficiently with limited time, minimal supplies, and a portable sketch kit.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, you will acquire a hands-on experience that will help you develop confidence in sketching on location and embracing spontaneity in your art!

Supplies you should bring:
You can use whatever supply that works for you. Zandro uses watercolor and pens with ink with paper that handles watercolor well.

Located in Vanier Park, the Vancouver Maritime Museum showcases the rich maritime history of the Pacific Northwest and the Arctic. Its main exhibition is the St. Roch, the first vessel to travel the North West Passage from west to east. The museum features an extensive collection of maritime artifacts. It will be a fun experience to explore and learn life on the oceans! If the weather permits, you can also sketch outdoors in Vanier Park or along the seawall, which offers stunning waterfront views.
