Urban Sketchers Vancouver and the Urban Sketchers Global Executive Board cordially invite you to join us in USk Van Sketch Weekend! The event will run between 5 to 6 April 2025! This is going to be USk Vancouver's first big community event, featuring amazing guest instructors and lots of learning opportunities. We have an exciting lineup of esteemed guest and established local artists. The details of each artist and activity will follow soon.

Workshops

Genine Carvalheira Former President of Urban Sketchers

Genine has filled over 85 sketchbooks, recording her life and travels across 30+ countries. Her sketchbook serves as a visual journal, capturing the quiet beauty of everyday moments. Genine is always ready to capture life as it unfolds.

Genine will lead the workshop The Full Picture: Sketching Your Entire Experience, showing how to create dynamic story-rich two page spread sketchbooks. Join Genine in capturing a scene in sketches that transcend their physical appearances.

Mike Daikubara Vice President of Urban Sketchers

Mike is as passionate in sketching as sharing his love for sketching. That is why he has authored over 10 urban sketching books, encouraging others to pick up a pen and sketch. Mike often does quick sketches on interesting environments in his everyday life.

Mike will lead the workshop Color First Ink Later. Sharing his methods and thought process in urban sketching, breaking down complex subjects into natural flowing processes. Making potentially overwhelming scenes approachable.

Annette Morris Education Director of Urban Sketchers

Annette is a drawing teacher and frequent volunteer for the Urban Sketchers, organising outings for others to share a journey together. Annette treasures meeting other creatives, learning from each other, and generally having a good time sketching.

Annette will lead the workshop Choosing & Celebrating Colour. This workshop will explore how to select and adapt local colours to create interest and luminosity in your sketches.

USk Van Sketch Weekend will show the diverse attractions of Granville Island

If you're new to Vancouver, Granville Island is the place to start with. It is home to galleries, theatres, boutiques, and craft/art supply shops, making it attract artists and creatives. Granville Island Public Market offers fresh local produce and artisanal foods that could feed you all day. The Island is surrounded by the stunning waterfront views. In USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025, most activities will happen on Granville Island. We're excited to show its diverse attractions to the global USk team and sketchers from outside Vancouver and have them sketch the vibrant island! You can draw the iconic Burrard Bridge with cute boats floating on the water, beyond which the downtown high-rises create a unique contrast with the mountains. Or, you can find a more quiet, laid-back sketching spot by walking along the water on the southeast side. In addition, drawing people while enjoying the foods in the market can be a fun option.
