[Meetup Info] LET'S SKETCH AT Burnaby Blooms - Celebrating International USk Week

As part of celebrations of International Urban Sketchers Week running from May 1-7, we are hosting a sketching meetup at Burnaby Blooms! We had a meetup at the same location last year, though it was rainy. Hope the weather is better this year to enjoy this event at its best.

The Burnaby Blooms Festival is held every year at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and Deer Lake Park. Let's join this event with our sketchbooks and match the energy of the surroundings.

  • May 4, 2025 (Sun)
  • Meeting spot & time: Outside the Shadbolt Centre overlooking Deer Lake at 1:30 pm
  • Throwdown: Same as the meeting spot at 4:00 pm

*We will update closer to the date if anything changes.

There are plenty of sketching opportunities here with the picturesque Deer Lake park, the Shadbolt Centre. There are rhododendrons in bloom at this time of the year and if you're into people-sketching, the event itself will provide a great opportunity.

Read more about the event here.

This is a free admission event. There is limited parking in the vicinity. There are buses to Deer Lake park from Metrotown Station if you're taking the Skytrain.

Looking forward to more outdoor sketching with the weather getting better.

USk Van Sketch Weekend will show the diverse attractions of Granville Island

If you're new to Vancouver, Granville Island is the place to start with. It is home to galleries, theatres, boutiques, and craft/art supply shops, making it attract artists and creatives. Granville Island Public Market offers fresh local produce and artisanal foods that could feed you all day. The Island is surrounded by the stunning waterfront views. In USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025, most activities will happen on Granville Island. We're excited to show its diverse attractions to the global USk team and sketchers from outside Vancouver and have them sketch the vibrant island! You can draw the iconic Burrard Bridge with cute boats floating on the water, beyond which the downtown high-rises create a unique contrast with the mountains. Or, you can find a more quiet, laid-back sketching spot by walking along the water on the southeast side. In addition, drawing people while enjoying the foods in the market can be a fun option. Even if you are local and familiar with every place o...
