THE RIVER MARKET is located one block south of the New Westminster Skytrain station and is an ideal indoor location to spread out from.

There are multiple sketching themes to choose from - the broad pedestrian promenade with the Fraser River, the tugboats or even the 1930s Samson V sternwheeler boat also close by. Behind the market are the railway tracks where you might see graffiti-decorated freight cars. There is also a large construction site with several tall high rise buildings going up. Finally, there are all kinds of people to sketch, all over the place.

How to Get There:
Skytrain - Exit from the east side of New Westminster station to ground level on 8th Street. Walk south on 8th Street for half a block, cross Columbia Street and go over the pedestrian overpass, above the railway tracks. Then descend to ground level and walk around to the River Market area, to your right.

If you're driving, there's paid parking nearby ($$) or free street parking which is a 10 minute walk west of the meetup point, on Quayside Drive.

FAQs — USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025

For those who signed up for USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025, here is the useful information you should know before the event! Q. Can I come only for my event? Is there anything more planned? You are welcome to join on both days of Sketch Weekend! In the morning sessions, we have workshops and sketchcrawls with limited capacity. But afternoon sessions are open to all registered participants. They will be held indoors at Zameen Art House (on Granville Island) from 2pm-5pm on both days. There will be ample opportunities to hang out, listen to inspiring talks, chat with other sketchers, and look through each other’s sketchbooks - all the fun stuff! Q. Will I be able to speak with instructors and visiting Executive Board members? Yes! We made sure to designate some unstructured time for mingling every afternoon. Event recap: Day 1 — USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025

On April 5 and 6, 2025, Urban Sketchers Vancouver hosted its inaugural Sketch Weekend on Granville Island in collaboration with the Urban Sketchers Executive Board . They selected Vancouver as the location for their annual in-person meeting in spring 2025 and suggested that the local team organize an event in the following weekend. We were so delighted to welcome them and to have this special opportunity to benefit from the global network of Urban Sketchers. The weather in Vancouver during early spring is quite unpredictable. The first day of the event was, however, blessed with clear blue skies! After a few gloomy weeks, the sun finally showed and it made a perfect day for sketching.
