Let’s meet and sketch at Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf!

📍Outside the historical Steveston Tram Building,
4011 Moncton St, Richmond, BC

  • June 29, 2025 (Sun)
  • Meetup 🕐 1 pm
  • Sketch Throwdown 🕐 3:30 pm

*We will update closer to the date if anything changes.

We had a successful meetup at this location a couple of years ago, so we're bringing it back!

The once thriving fishing village of Steveston is now a scenic destination, located along an arm of the Fraser and close to the sea.

There is a LOT to sketch: the 1912 tram (where we’ll meet), wharfs and fishing boats, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery (Museum), Britannia Shipyards (Museum), Steveston Post Office (Museum), industrial scenery, a store-lined main street, cozy cafes, kites flying in Garry Park, and even the Phoenix Art Studio (Chatham St).

Our meetup point at 1 pm will be outside the Steveston Tram Building, near No. 1 Road and Moncton Street.

We will return here at 3:30 pm to see each other’s work.

How to Get There:

- Public Transit
From Vancouver City Centre Station to Richmond-Brighouse, allow at least 30 min on the Canada Line. From Brighouse to Steveston takes about 45 more minutes – sorry it takes so long, but it’s worth it!

Take the Canada Line to Richmond-Brighouse Station (last stop). Be careful not to get on the YVR (Airport) train.

#402 Two Road Bus is best — it stops right at the Steveston Tram (Stop #56595):

Alternatively, #406 Steveston Bus stops within two blocks of the tram.

- Driving
Parking is tricky but not impossible — try side streets or the lot near Steveston Community Centre.

What to Bring:
Art supplies, water, a hat, good outerwear. A portable stool is a bonus!

As an official chapter, we respect and follow Urban Sketchers' manifesto in every meetup.

Event recap: Day 1 — USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025

On April 5 and 6, 2025, Urban Sketchers Vancouver hosted its inaugural Sketch Weekend on Granville Island in collaboration with the Urban Sketchers Executive Board . They selected Vancouver as the location for their annual in-person meeting in spring 2025 and suggested that the local team organize an event in the following weekend. We were so delighted to welcome them and to have this special opportunity to benefit from the global network of Urban Sketchers. The weather in Vancouver during early spring is quite unpredictable. The first day of  the event was, however, blessed with clear blue skies! After a few gloomy weeks, the sun finally showed and it made a perfect day for sketching. Here's a recap of the beautiful, sunny Day 1 of USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025. Registration opened at Opus Art Supplies at 10 am. The local art supply shop generously offered their upstairs space for our registration desk. Since it was our first large-scale event and the admission was free, we were wo...
