  • 📅Saturday, August 16th, 2025
  • Meetup 🕐 11:10 am
  • Sketch Throwdown 🕐 5:00 pm

*Some members are going to stay at the meetup location until noon so people arriving late can find the group. Since this is an extended event, please read the description below for the detailed itinerary (but you can basically come and leave anytime you want!).

*We will update closer to the date if anything changes.

THINK OF THIS as a great ALL day event and sketching opportunity! Going to nearby Bowen Island is also an adventure - we did it last year and it was lots of fun! Bowen Island is an interesting destination with lovely coastlines, deep forests and a much slower lifestyle. It is also a part of Metro Vancouver. The village of Snug Cove has a boat harbour, restaurants, pubs, ice cream available, gift shops and galleries. There is a fairly easy hiking trail, along a beach and through the forest to Killarney Lake (45 minutes each way).

How to Get There:
9:25 am: Take #257 Express bus at Dunsmuir St @ Cambie Street to the terminus stop, Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal
10:35 am: Take BC Ferry to Bowen Island. $12 passenger fare return

*You can also drive to Horseshoe Bay, but be reminded that the parking lots are paid and can fill up quickly.

USk Van Sketch Weekend will show the diverse attractions of Granville Island

If you're new to Vancouver, Granville Island is the place to start with. It is home to galleries, theatres, boutiques, and craft/art supply shops, making it attract artists and creatives. Granville Island Public Market offers fresh local produce and artisanal foods that could feed you all day. The Island is surrounded by the stunning waterfront views. In USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025, most activities will happen on Granville Island. We're excited to show its diverse attractions to the global USk team and sketchers from outside Vancouver and have them sketch the vibrant island! You can draw the iconic Burrard Bridge with cute boats floating on the water, beyond which the downtown high-rises create a unique contrast with the mountains. Or, you can find a more quiet, laid-back sketching spot by walking along the water on the southeast side. In addition, drawing people while enjoying the foods in the market can be a fun option. Even if you are local and familiar with every place o...
