Let’s meet and sketch at the Shipyards, North Vancouver!

The Shipyards is a world-class mixed-use development on the North Vancouver waterfront. The site is named after the Wallace Shipyards, which dates back to the First World War.

You can find various sketchworthy subjects like:

Activity in and around the Shipyard Commons
The Lonsdale Quay, with its busy market vibe
Floating dry dock or nearby boats
Skyline views of Downtown Vancouver

Meeting Point:

The meeting location is in front of the Polygon Gallery's overhang where a bunch of benches are. We will gather at 1pm and spread out around North Vancouver's Shipyard area and come back to the same spot at 3:30pm to share our works.

Public bathrooms are available nearby.

Things To Bring:

• Art supplies

• A collapsible stool or chair (optional, but preferred)

• Water

• Hat

How to Get There:

- Public Transit

The best way is to get here by seabus. Take the Expo Line to Waterfront Station. Then take the Lonsdale Quay seabus to the terminal with the same name and then walk towards the Polygon Gallery overhang.

- Driving

Pay parking is available at Lonsdale Quay Market, the Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier, and the ICBC parkade, located adjacent to Lonsdale Quay Market with entries off Rogers Avenue and Carrie Cates. Street parking is also available on Lonsdale Avenue, Esplanade, and side streets, though spots can be limited.

For those who signed up for USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025, here is the useful information you should know before the event! Q. Can I come only for my event? Is there anything more planned? You are welcome to join on both days of Sketch Weekend! In the morning sessions, we have workshops and sketchcrawls with limited capacity. But afternoon sessions are open to all registered participants. They will be held indoors at Zameen Art House (on Granville Island) from 2pm-5pm on both days. There will be ample opportunities to hang out, listen to inspiring talks, chat with other sketchers, and look through each other’s sketchbooks - all the fun stuff! Q. Will I be able to speak with instructors and visiting Executive Board members? Yes! We made sure to designate some unstructured time for mingling every afternoon. Event recap: Day 1 — USk Van Sketch Weekend 2025

On April 5 and 6, 2025, Urban Sketchers Vancouver hosted its inaugural Sketch Weekend on Granville Island in collaboration with the Urban Sketchers Executive Board . They selected Vancouver as the location for their annual in-person meeting in spring 2025 and suggested that the local team organize an event in the following weekend. We were so delighted to welcome them and to have this special opportunity to benefit from the global network of Urban Sketchers. The weather in Vancouver during early spring is quite unpredictable. The first day of the event was, however, blessed with clear blue skies! After a few gloomy weeks, the sun finally showed and it made a perfect day for sketching.
